A three-time All-Conference Carolinas selection as a player at Belmont Abbey, Nolan Albrecht was named head coach of the Crusaders’ men’s volleyball program on April 25, 2017. He also serves as an assistant coach for the women's team, a position he held before taking over on the men's side.

“After conducting an extensive search, we are thrilled to name one of our own as our Head Men's Volleyball Coach,” Athletic Director Stephen Miss said at his hiring. “Nolan was an exemplary student, decorated athlete, and tremendous all-around ambassador during his college career and has done a tremendous job as an assistant with both the men's and women's programs. We have every confidence in Coach Albrecht's leadership going forward and know he will do a fine job with the formation and development of the young men in our program."
Albrecht returned to his alma mater as a volunteer assistant coach for the women’s team in mid-season and was promoted to full time in December. He was involved in all aspects of the program which finished third in the league standings and improved in almost every offensive statistical categories.

During his short tenure as recruiting coordinator and interim assistant coach of the men’s team, Albrecht coached alongside Elyea, guiding the Crusaders to a 6-4 conference record (6-8 overall) which included five straight wins at the end of the regular season, the second-longest run in school history. The Abbey climbed to fifth in the final standings before a quarterfinal match at Limestone. Albrecht was responsible for practice planning and much of the match strategy during the season, leading to substantial statistical improvements in hitting percentage, kills per set, assists per set, digs per set, and aces per set.

A former standout outside hitter and setter for the Abbey, Albrecht was a four-year captain and led the nation in kills (523), kills per set (5.03) and points per set (5.56) while hitting .350 during his senior season. Albrecht was named the AVCA National Player of the Week and finished third in voting for the "Karch Kiraly Award" for the nation's best Outside Hitter.

During his three seasons of active play at The Abbey, Nolan amassed two first-team All-Conference Carolinas selections, one second-team all-conference selection, and multiple Player of the Week awards. His career statistics include 1,157 kills, 594 digs, 142 total blocks, and 70 aces. After sitting out for his entire sophomore season due to injury, he was named “Conference Carolinas' Comeback Player of the Year” after returning to the top 10 in several statistical categories.

Albrecht graduated with honors from Belmont Abbey College with two degrees: Sports Management and Theology. During his time at the Abbey, he performed in three musical productions with the Abbey Players including a lead role as “John the Baptist/Judas” in Godspell and a supporting role as “Reuben” in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Before the Abbey, Nolan played club volleyball and coached for Sports Performance Volleyball Club in Aurora, Ill., where he was named a USA Volleyball All-American during his senior year, and helped lead his team to a fourth-place finish at the USAV BJNC in the 18 Open division. In addition, he was a recipient of Sports Faith International’s “Hometown Hero Award” for exemplary virtue and athletic accomplishments.
